This museum introduces the history, technology, and splendor of silk, the traditional silk industry of Gunma Prefecture. Visitors can learn about the process from sericulture to silk weaving, and see valuable materials and beautiful silk products on display. You can easily experience silk culture through digital technology such as videos and games.

Hours: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Closed: Every Tuesday (or the following day if Tuesday is a public holiday), New Year holidays (December 27 - January 5), and temporary closures for exhibition changes.
Fees & Estimated Time
Admission Fee: Adults: 200 JPY, University/High School Students: 100 JPY. Prices are different during special exhibitions (Adults: 400 JPY, University/High School Students: 250 JPY). Free for junior high school students and younger. Group discounts (for 20 or more people) are also available. Estimated time: 60-120 minutes.
Highlights & How to Enjoy
Live silkworms are raised year-round in the museum, allowing visitors to observe their life cycle up close. Additionally, workshops are regularly held where you can enjoy not just seeing but also experiencing silk firsthand through activities like crafting with cocoons, authentic hand-weaving, and dyeing (separate fees and reservations may be required). In the museum shop, products made from Gunma silk such as ties, socks, and cosmetics are popular.
